Perception vs Reality Survey - Singapore version

At the start of 2017, ICDL Asia begins the project "Perception versus Reality" Survey to understand the digital literacy standards of tertiary students in Singapore. Currently, we have close to 400 students participated in the survey and it is still ongoing.

In line with global findings, students often falsely perceive that they have excellent knowledge in using computers, mobile and high tech devices. Thus, students or youths at large would naturally believe that they already possess adequate digital skills to enter the workforce, and dismisses the need to go through any formal training entirely. Through this research, we hope to uncover the students’ overall performance and share insights into the common ‘Digital Native’ fallacy in Singapore. We also hope to bridge the gap between digital standards on education level and the actual skill set that is demanded in the workforce.

The findings of this survey will be presented in July to emphasize the need for formal training to better prepare students/graduates for future workforce.
