After more than 9 months of preparations, hardwork from our local territory partners who are involved in the ICDL Asia Digital Challenge 2018, we are glad to announce and celebrate the finale of the Grand Final Competiton which took place in Bangkok, Thailand on 5 September 2018.
A new report by UNESCO has highlighted the ICDL programme as a significant example of a digital skills framework around the world. ‘A Global Framework of Reference on Digital Literacy Skills for Indicator 4.4.2’ was published with the aim of providing a basis for an indicator of the, “Percentage of youth/adults who have achieved at least a minimum level of proficiency in digital literacy skills”, under the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.
Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) bringing ICDL Certification to the Malaysian Students
Jul 2018 - Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (‘TAR UC’) officially became an ICDL Accredited Test Centre. Seeing the needs in increasing digital literacy standards for its students, TAR UC is dedicating 2 computer labs at the CPE Department of each campus for ICDL Testings. TAR UC have their Main Campus in Kuala Lumpur with five other branches in Penang, Perak, Johor, Pahang and Sabah respectively; it is well recognized locally and internationally among the academic fraternity and professional bodies.
The American Council on Education’s College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE CREDIT®) has evaluated and recommended college credit for five of ICDL Foundation’s modules. Founded in 1918, ACE is the major coordinating body for all the United States’ higher education institutions, representing more than 1,600 college and university presidents and more than 200 related associations nationwide. It provides leadership on key higher education issues and influences public policy through advocacy.
Vietnam Ministry of Information and Communication and ICDL Vietnam co-hosted dissemination workshop on Circular 44/2017/TT-BTTTT
On the morning of 24th June 2018, a dissemination of information and communication technology workshop was co-organised by Vietnam Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) and ICDL Vietnam at Ho Chi Minh City. The workshop is chaired by Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tuyen - Deputy Director of Information Technology Department with participants from members and staffs from other MIC consultative boards, Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) as well as various educational institutions.
29 May 2018 – MOU signing and ICDL Plaque presentation ceremony took place between Nanning Vocational Technology College and ICDL Asia at The Development Center of Modern Vocational Education in Guangxi Province. Consul of Consulate General of Ireland & Director of Enterprise Ireland in China - Mr. David Byrne, ICDL Foundation CEO – Mr. Damien O’Sullivan, Vice Principal of Nanning Vocational Technology College – Mr. Zhou Wang & Mr. Hu Weidong and other stakeholders attended and witnessed the ceremony. The ceremony witnessed the collaboration and fostered the commitments between education sector in Guangxi and ICDL to raise the digital skills standards among students in the province.
Nanjing Students Emerging as Forerunners for Digital Skills to Represent China for Grand Final Competition
In accordance with China’s “One Belt, One Road” policy, plans to increase China students’ digital skills were implemented. Under the guidance of Nanjing Education Association for International Exchange, Nanjing Department of Education, Nanjing Educational Technology Center and support from Nanjing Commercial College, ICDL Digital Challenge 2018 – China National Competition was held successfully on 31 May 2018 in Nanjing, China.
Taking bigger steps into Singapore schools with more than 1000 students taking part in ICDL Digital Challenge 2018
ICDL Digital Challenge was the first competition organised by ICDL Asia to search for students with best ICT skills in Asia. The competition held in 2017 was a success with close to 3700 students, 106 schools and 7 countries or territories participating. In 2018, the competition involved more countries’ participation with more than 6200 students till date (as at 31 May 2018). Singapore was one for the 11 countries/territories involved.
11 Apr 2018 – ICDL Asia General Manager, Ms Tina Wu, attended the signing ceremony with Shunde Polytechnic and Wintour Technology & Education. In the event, Ms Tina Wu presented the plaque to Mr Chen Jian, Dean of Tourism and Hotel Management from Shunde Polytechnic, in the presence of Mr Huang Xin, CEO of Wintour Technology & Education, in officiating Shunde Polytechnic to become an ICDL Centre.
As computational thinking and basic coding has become a trend and seemingly necessary basic skills for the new generation to have. ICDL Asia and Korea Productivity Centre (KPC) has successfully developed the ICDL Computing module (Korean version) for the students in Universities and International Schools.
